Welsh organic producers' conference 2009![]() Over 140 producers and those connected with organic production in Wales attended our annual conference on 15 October at IBERS Gogerddan. Elin Jones spoke in the morning session (see her speech), and Catherine Fookes introduced the new EU organic advertising campaign (see www.organicuk.org). In the afternoon, Prof. Gareth Edwards-Jones spoken on climate change and agriculture, and Dr Nick Fenwick, Agricultural Policy Officer of the FUW, presented a critique of the CAP and Food Security. He explained that the CAP is critical to domestic and EU food security, and should take account of peak oil, water, and other considerations. He said that re-nationalisation was not acceptable or sustainable, a reduction in CAP budget would threaten food security and DEFRA's 'vision' would be catastrophic for food security and our rural communities. The rest of the day was devoted to issues relating to organic production. Copies of the plenary session presentations and workshop reports may be downloaded below.
