Gwynedd Sustainable Food Community

BOBL has provided financial support to two local initiatives, the Gwynedd Food Charter and Porthmadog Leisure Centre Allotments. Involvement and consultation with local community groups and public sector bodies was sought to implement these initiatives. Working towards a greater awareness and demand for organic, local produce, these projects aim to provide local people with more opportunities to participate and learn about local food production.

Porthmadog Leisure Centre Allotmentsallotment

Allotments on raised beds at Porthmadog Leisure Centre allow local community members to connect with local produce, be involved in the growing and harvesting. Once harvested the group plan to run cooking demonstrations to show the benefits of home grown vegetables. Find our more here

Gwynedd Food Charter
The Gwynedd Food Charter was developed to celebrate local food and help to ensure demand and awareness of local food production in the Gwynedd area. The Charter was launched during a ceremony held at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Glynllifon, Caernarfon on the 6th June. Charter and Speeches of support for the Charter were given by Councillor Selwyn Griffiths, Chairman of Gwynedd Council, Aled Hughes from Public Health Wales, and Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, AM, former Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales, who is now currently Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, and Plaid Cymru's spokesperson on Rural Affairs,
Fisheries and Food. Find out more here
