Glastir update, December 2010

A review process has been put in place following the low response to Glastir. In a recent organic sector meeting with the Minister, Elin Jones indicated that the organic sector will be represented on the group. OCW's annual producer Survey indicated that 26% of organic farmers thought they would apply to the AWE. On the basis of OCW's discussions with farmers, the biggest single issue was the absence of organic maintenance payments in the AWE. Many of those that did apply will have an eye on the targeted element which will offer higher levels of support for farmers in priority locations.

OCW has not yet heard feedback on take-up during the recent Organic Farming Conversion Scheme application window.
