Welsh Organics Taste Success at True Taste Awards
Organic businesses across Wales tasted success last week, at this year's Wales the True Taste Food and Drink Awards. The award ceremony is in its 11th year and was hosted by the Welsh Government at The Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, on the 25th October to celebrate the very best food and drink that Wales has to offer.
Once again the Organic sector performed superbly, scooping eight awards within the highly competitive lamb, dairy and export categories. Of these eight awards the Organic sector won two Gold's, four Silver and two Bronze. Among them Caws Cenarth Cheese from Cardigan took home the Cheese, Small Producer Silver Award for their Golden Cenarth cheese:
'Here at Caws Cenarth we've always believed that using organic milk produces great tasting cheese and this award adds to the numerous accolades that our organic cheeses have accrued over the years. It just goes to show that many others appreciate and agree with the ethos and great taste of organic products.'
Neil Pearson, Manager of Organic Centre Wales said: “These awards are a really positive achievement for Welsh organics and a fantastic reward for the innovative, entrepreneurial businessmen and women within organic farming. It showcases that organic businesses are producing excellent tasting food as well as meeting the rigorous ethical and environmental guidelines of organic farming.”
Although only accounting for a relatively small amount of Welsh farms (8%), the Organic sector impressed the True Taste Judging panel of Chefs, Food Writers, Industry Experts and Journalists who scored the products on their ingredients, smell, appearance, 'chewability' and taste. Organic producers also came out top on performance in export markets over the last 12 months, providing another welcome boost to the sector..
Following the True Taste Awards ceremony, the True Taste Mobile Kitchen, sponsored by Organic Centre Wales, will be touring Tesco stores around the country to give consumers the opportunity to taste the award winning Welsh food first hand.
