Organic Market Growth

There is now strong evidence emerging that the organic market is continuing to recover, with overall organic retail sales growing every month since April when compared with the year before figure. Particularly strong growths have occurred in certain sectors with the poultry sector leading with a 10.5% growth in the last year. This growth in demand, coupled with concerns about producers leaving the industry is starting to show in better organic prices for producers, especially with milk and beef. Irish organic producers have also attained considerable successes exporting beef to Germany including 150t to Hipp for baby food manufacture. Is there an opportunity for Welsh organic producers to also access these German markets? The developments and challenges in marketing organic stock will be featured in a workshop at the ORC's organic producer conference 22-23 January 2014. read more
