Vegetarianism and the environment

A study by Cranfield University, commissioned by the environmental group WWF, suggests that vegetarianism may have disadvantages for the environment. Switching from beef and lamb reared in Britain to meat substitutes such as tofu would result in more foreign land being cultivated and raise the risk of forests being destroyed to create farmland. Meat substitutes also tend to be highly processed and involve energy-intensive production methods.
