Pembrokeshire Sustainable Food Community

The Sustainable Food Community work in Pembrokeshire centred around two local schools, Ysgol Bro Dewi and Ysgol Wdig. These two projects enabled children to gain practical experience at planting, growing and selling their own food, teaching them some of the vital skills needed for food production.

COCA Ysgol Bro Dewi
Caerhys Organic Community Agriculture (COCA) worked with pupils at Ysgol Bro Dewi to run a primary school vegetable co-op scheme. Teaching the children entrepreneurial skills and expanding their knowledge of organic food production. This project was enjoyed by all involved and complimented the school curriculum, incorporating key skills such as; communication, application of number and thinking. Find out more here.

Ysgol Wdig: The Growing Zone
A project focused on growing organic vegetable and fruit, education about the environmental benefits and healthy eating habits. Year 6 pupils and parents transformed a compost area into a growing area and they also ran practical courses on food production for the wider local community. Children enjoyed the set-up of the Growing Zone and it will be used every year with years 5 & 6 to continue its success. Find out more here
