Providing information on organic food and farming in Wales
SRUC is one of Europe's leading Research, Education and Consultancy organisations specialising in services for the land-based industries both nationally and internationally. Its 1500 staff provides research and consultancy services (through SAC Consulting Solutions) to small and medium-sized enterprises, corporate clients, local and regional authorities and state agencies and departments. SAC Consulting Solutions provides advice funded by the Scottish Government via the organic helpline for Scottish farmers. SAC Consulting also provides a commercial organic farming consultancy service for rural businesses.
SRUC has owned and run an organic farm at Tulloch in Aberdeenshire since 1991 and currently produces beef, sheep and organic cereals. . In 1991 we established a replicated field trial which compare two different organic rotations (stocked and stockless). Research on organic farming at SRUC is funded by the Scottish Government, the EU and BBSRC.
SRUC also offers an established postgraduate diploma/MSc in Organic Farming by online distance learning. Nic Lampkin and Susanne Padel from ORC contribute to this course.
SRUC and the Scottish Government are working alongside industry to support Scotland's Organic sector and are working with the Scottish Organic Forum to deliver Organic Futures: An Action Plan for organic food and farming in Scotland.
