The UK certification system

Tir Organig Sign

In the UK, all organic farmers, growers and processors must register with one of the Defra-approved organic control bodies which inspect them at least once a year to make sure they are meeting the standards. The standards cover all aspects of organic production from soil treatments and animal feeds to health plans and manure management. They also cover food processing on and off farm.

When you apply for certification, you will receive a copy of that organization's standards, which must comply with the EU Regulations, and you will be required to follow these at all times. The standards include an element of flexibility allowing cases to be judged individually. More information on certification and contact details of control bodies in Wales here.
