Rhos Market Garden CSA

Rhos market garden
Mick and Alice Westrip moved to Knighton to set up Rhos Market Garden around four years ago. They sell their produce on various market stalls in the area, but wanted to build closer links with the community. They hit on the idea of selling 'veg vouchers' which can be redeemed on their stall through out the year.

Although customers are not expected to work on the farm, Mick and Alice have found that people not only want to help out with weeding, but also with marketing and deliveries of produce. They try to organise social events for their members such as coffee mornings and BBQ's to bring everyone together to say 'thank you'.

Mick said "Ours is a very simple scheme, and our local community supports us by buying our produce up front. That gives us a really secure market and puts money in our pockets at the beginning of the season when we need to buy all the seed, composts and other inputs. People want to support us because we are a small local business, producing good, organic food, and that gives us a real lift."
