Staff of Organic Centre Wales

The BOBL project, and with it the funds to employ dedicated staff at OCW, came to an end on 31 August 2015. OCW is continuing, albeit as a more ‘virtual’ centre, supported by its partners ORC, IBERS and ADAS with continuing Welsh Government funding. The Organic Research Centre (ORC) is the UK’s leading independent research centre for the development of organic/agroecological food production and land management solutions to key global issues including climate change, soil and biodiversity conservation, and food security. Established in 1980 by David Astor, the Progressive Farming Trust Ltd., ORC’s parent educational charity, has continued to pursue the visionary sustainability goals of its founders. Nic has played a key role in the development of the economic, policy and technical aspects of organic farming systems, in particular: European organic farming policy, Organic farm incomes in England and Wales, Environmental benchmarking and sustainability assessment.

Previously a Project Officer for the BOBL Project and after 13 years at the Centre, Tony is a familiar face to many of Wales’ organic food and farming businesses. He continues to work for OCW on a freelance basis. In previous lives he has provided technical support to the organic growers and poultry producers of Wales through Farming Connect and ran the Organic Conversion Information Service for nearly 10 years. Growing fruit and veg is his first love, but he helps put on the odd sheep farm to keep his hand in!

IBERS is an internationally recognised centre of excellence and students’ choice for the study of biological, environmental and rural sciences.

The IBERS Grassland Development Centre aims to deliver science and information to livestock farmers to improve their efficiency of grassland production and to protect and enhance grassland habitats.
