OCW at the Winter fair

OCW added a new string to its bow this year, with a new consumer focused stand in the food hall in addition to our usual station up on the balcony of the livestock building. We were joined at the latter by the Soil Association, Organic Farmers & Growers, Quality Welsh Food Certification and Graig Producers.

Down in the Food Hall, carrot taste testing and our ‘feeling organic’ feature ensured a steady flow of interest, and our thanks go to Dona Frost and Patti Keane who ran the stall for us. Up on the Balcony much of the talk involved variable weather patterns (many reflecting that this time last year conditions were arctic), forage issues (including some shortages), feed costs and market conditions. Policy issues, of course, also featured large.

Tony Little, from Organic Centre Wales said ‘I thought it was a good show. We saw many of our old friends and made a few new ones. Much of my time was spent talking about CAP reform and the prospects for organic farming in the new RDP. Like most of us, I’m still getting to grips with the detail, but there are some encouraging noises coming out of Europe. I’d like to thank all our fellow exhibitors, and all those who took the time to come and see us’
